When we are thirsty, there’s nothing better than a glass of Coca Cola or some other refreshing drink. But, we must be careful with the consumption of soft drinks, as they may become harmful to our health.

According to a study by the Minnesota University, those who drink two or more drinks a week have nearly 90% greater risk of developing pancreatic cancer. The explanation lies in the fact that the sugar in these drinks interfere in the levels of insulin in our bodies.

Insulin is a hormone that helps the body digest sugars that is produced in the pancreas. Thus, the action of sugary soft drinks contribute to the growth of cancer cells in the liver. And the risk is much greater when you consider that most consumers of soft drinks tend to have fewer healthy habits, including smoking.

But this study is not a definitive proof. Out of 60,000 individuals analyzed, there were only 140 who had pancreatic cancer. In addition, one must consider many more factors that can influence the development of this disease, including smoking, alcohol consumption, diabetes and genetic predispositions.

However, it is good to control the consumption of soft drinks, because this is also a cause of obesity.
