The following tricks may come in handy in eliminating sugar from your daily diet:

Keep yourself well hydrated. This is because dehydration has the potential to leave you crave for sugar and sweets.

Cut off caffeine gradually. What caffeine is capable of doing is swing blood sugar and leaving you feel dehydrated. Both of these may make you crave for sugar.

Consume more protein and more omega 3 fatty acids which are also known as good fats. Keep a balance between your protein intakes for it may lead to sugar craving when taken more or when taken less than normal amount. Proper good fat and proteins help maintain blood sugar levels and also satiety.

A strong urge for sugar may arise when you skip a meal or two. So don’t miss a meal.

Take in natural sweet that is fruits and veggies for they not only nurture your craving for sweet but are also rich in phytochemicals, fiber, vitamins, and micronutrients.

Stay away from those artificial sweeteners and chemical which claim to taste sweet. These are harmful for health. You should rather use little quantity of gentle sweeteners such as barley malt, rice syrup, honey, and dried fruit etc.

Get proper sleep. Being sleepless would call for extra energy and hence extra urge for sugar and sweets.

Be physically active and smart.

These tips may look small but these can bring a big change in your life. Remember that you can only enjoy life at the fullest if you take care of yourself.

By on July 22, 2013 in Diseases, General, Health, Health, Prevention with 0 Comments

Parents always wish good health and prosperity for their children. Health is also one of the most sensitive issues when it comes to children. You must be very concerned if you child is at risk of kidney disease and you wish to be sure that he or she is not.

Kidney diseases are not only common in adults but also in children. It may be due to the many different reasons such as low intake of fluid, holding urine for long, or many other reasons. To find if your child has kidney disease, you should go for a urine test. This will ensure if there is any problem in the kidney because usually, in early stages of kidney disease, there are no visible symptoms that the child would show.

In this urine test, your child would be said to collect the urine in a small sample bottle. In this test, what is checked is the albumin levels. Healthy kidneys do not let albumin pass through them. If the kidneys of your child are healthy, the re would be no albumin found on test. But if the kidney is damaged, some albumin may appear in kidney and thus would be detected by the test.

If the urine test shows high albumin in the urine of your child, this means you need to see a healthcare provider to get your child’s kidneys checked.

If your child is obese, diabetic, has pain in the back, feels burning sensations while urinating, gets swelling on the eyelids after getting up in the morning or has family history of kidney disease, your child maybe at risk of kidney disease.

Make sure you get your child checked up.

What to eat in Diarrhea?

By on July 20, 2013 in Diet, Dieting, General, Health, Health with 0 Comments

Diarrhea is basically an Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) that affects many people irrespective of age and sex. You eat something wrong; you have to rush to the washroom many times a day. You may become weak, awful and dehydrated by these frequent bowel movements. To make life a little easy when you have diarrhea, let us discuss some foods that you should have to make your diarrhea better.

The BRAT Diet:

If you didn’t know about the BRAT diet, today is a good day to know about it. BRAT (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast) is a diet that helps overcome diarrhea.

Banana contains the following ingredients that help your digestive system and your body:

Pectin: Soluble form of fiber that absorbs water content and expands so that the food moves slowly and gradually through the intestine.

Potassium: Works for the lost about of electrolytes in stool.

Inulin: Fiber content that not only helps in movement of the food but also has pre-biotic property.

Rice can help you feel better. Due to the fact that it is low in fiber content, the carbohydrate in rice gets digested in the small intestine before reaching the end of the GIT. You can also go for mashed or boiled potatoes.

Applesauce is yet another comforter in your condition. Raw apple rich in pectin may be too rough, but cooked apple has the goodness in a more easily digestible form.

Toast and other processed whole grains should be consumed because they are easily digestible. You can eat crackers which have added salt which will help you maintain electrolyte balance.

Know the bumps called blackheads

By on July 20, 2013 in Diseases, General, Health, Health with 0 Comments

Blackheads or comedos are pimples that do not have skin over them; the air oxidizes the top layer of gunk in the pores and turns it dark black. Dead skin cells and sebum accumulate in the opening to the hair follicle producing a bump, which if covered by the skin is known as a whitehead or otherwise turns into a blackhead. This widely common skin disorder is basically a mild type of acne. They can appear anywhere on the body; nose, ears, back, chest, neck, arms and shoulders. Hormonal changes in the body and excessive use of cosmetics can cause the problem to occur in teenage and adolescence.

Blackheads can be treated by over -the-counter products by medication available in cream, gel, and pad form which contain ingredients such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and resorcinol. Stronger medications that are recommended by doctors contain vitamin A, benzoyl peroxide and antibiotics.

Dermatologists use round loop extractor to remove clogs or microdermabrasion removes the top layer of skin, which can also be done using chemical peels in which a strong chemical solution is applied to the skin. Laser and light therapies on the other hand, treat acnes and blackheads without affecting the top layer of skin.

You can prevent blackheads by making sure you wash your face when you wake up and before you go to bed and also after eating oily foods. Also wash your hair daily especially if it is oily. Opt for oil-free make-ups, lotion, sunscreen and exfoliating scrubs and masks to remove dead skin cells.

Smoking hazards

All are aware of the health problems caused by smoking, such as emphysema, cancer and heart diseases. It also has permanent effect on the lungs, the heart, the eyes, the throat, the urinary tract, the digestive organs, the bones and joints, and the skin. Other diseases may include chronic bronchitis, coronary heart diseases, stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysm, acute myeloid leukemia, cataract, pneumonia, periodontitis, and bladder, laryngeal, esophageal, lung, oral, throat, cervical, kidney, stomach, and pancreatic cancers. Smoking also brings about infertility, peptic ulcer diseases and slows healing of wounds. Chronic lung diseases make up 73 percent of smoking-related conditions and 53 percent for those who have quit.

Pregnant women who smoke give birth to premature babies.  20 to 30 percent of the babies have low-birth weight, 10 percent fail to survive and 40 percent of the deliveries are preterm. The babies who may seem to be healthy are found to have narrowed airways and reduced lung function.  Health care cost for maternal smoking is estimated to be $ 366 million per year $ 704 per maternal smoker. Smoking women also have a higher risk of lower bone density and hip fracture than women who never smoked.

Each year 440,000 or nearly one in five people die each year in the United States due to the adverse health effects of smoking, which is higher than the deaths that are caused by HIV aids, illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides and murders combined.

Avoid smoking, it may kill you someday!

Add the following food to your diet to see your hair get better and thicker. These foods are rich in protein and we all know that hairs are made up of protein called keratin.

Hair Issues in Summer Season

By on July 19, 2013 in General, Health, Health, Lifestyle with 0 Comments

With the sun shining brightly over you, indicating a pleasant day ahead, you are up from the bed and all ready to head out to start your day. But wait a minute! You notice something over your head, something which is unusually out of its texture, yes, it s your hair! That very important aspect of your persona has gone far away from its normal look.

A number of issues arise with the hair during summer.

The most common problem that we face is sweaty, oily and frizzy hair. Your scalp produces sebum which makes your hair greasy. Now how to fix this? Well, one easy solution to the problem is, wash your hair “not too frequently”. Sounds strange but actually, washing off your scalp everyday can stimulate it to produce more oil so as to replace the lost moisture. One more remedy which you can follow is to rub a small amount of baby powder on the hair roots. Now brush or shake the hair gently to remove any excess of it.

Flat hair is yet another summer hair issue. The moisture in the air gets trapped into the hair strands, making them seem lifeless.  A solution for this can be the use of some ‘anti-humidity hair spray’. Also, add more proteins to your diet to boost the volume of your hair.

Dried, puffy and coarse hair is the result of use of excessive chemicals. Externally applied strong chemicals can damage the hair cuticles, letting the harsh winds and other factors encounter directly with the hair strands. A simple solution to this problem can be to keep yourselves as well as your hair properly hydrated. Apply some olive oil two hours before you rinse your hair with a shampoo.

Ingrown toe nails

By on July 16, 2013 in General with 0 Comments

What are they?

A common nail disease in which, the nail instead of growing straight, tends to curve and grow in the surrounding tissue (skin). An ingrown toe nail may present due to the pressure on the nail (which may be because of wearing shoes).
The ingrown toe nail usually seems to affect the big toe.

What causes ingrown toe nails?

Naturally curved toe nails
Wearing shoes that are narrow in front, crowding and pressurizing the toe nails
Cutting the toenails in a slant or curved fashion (esp. from sides or corners) and cutting them too short.

What would this do to you?

An ingrown toe nail always causes infection since it breaks the normal barriers of the body (skin). If piercing is deep enough- bone infection. Tissue decay may result from the condition. Circulation may be impaired.

Signs and symptoms:

Pain with tenderness
Swollen toenail
Infection with pus

Treatment and prevention:

Normally, the toenail that is trying to get into the skin is lifted up. This is done by placing cotton near the edges of the nail. Little pain may accompany but with time it will fade away. The toe nail may also grow in its place if redirected.
Filing the toenails from side of the nail bed regularly will straighten and prevent them from growing in a curved manner.
Nails should be trimmed straight and not too deep.
To relieve pain, nails should be soaked in warm water.
Proper cleaning should be done to avoid infection.

Following are the tips that will help you ensure longer and thicker lashes:

Deal with your eyelashes with love. Rubbing your eyes carelessly may break your lashes. Because the roots of the eye lashes are very delicate, you may break them if you tug them.

Eyelash curler makes your eye lashes beautiful. Make sure you use it carefully and not pull your eyelids.

To add more beauty to our wonder eye lashes, we put mascara. Make sure that you have taken it off before you go to bed. This is because mascara makes your lashes stiff and this may cause them to break.

Another tip to keep lashes as well as your eyes healthy is toss your mascara before use. A new and better mascara every six months may help your eye lashes stay germ free and healthy.

If in case you have conjunctivitis (eye infection) you should make sure you don’t apply makeup very near to your eyes.

Take care of your lashes for they protect your delicate eyes from dusts and other foreign particles.

If you wish for longer and thicker lashes, you should apply olive oil or castor oil before you go to bed. You can also apply petroleum jelly and egg white for the same purpose.

What Causes Back Pain?

By on July 16, 2013 in Diseases, General, Health, Health with 0 Comments

Hello readers! I believe that the title of this post might have grasped your attention because you have suffered, or maybe still suffering from this annoying pain. Well, you aren’t alone if you are a bearer of back aches.

So what causes back pain? Is it something really serious?

The back part of our body is formed by many muscles, innervated by different nerves, and so, the pain arising here gets difficult to locate and to pinpoint the exact cause is not easy. However, mostly, this ache arises due to flaws in posture of our body while carrying out our day to day activities. Such as, you might have rarely or not at all given attention to the way you sit on the chair or sofa for long, the way you lay on your bed, your posture when you are standing for too long, etc.

All these factors contribute to the development of strain in the back as well as shoulder muscles.

When we pick something up from the floor, we usually tend to bend down from standing position itself, not realising what amount of stretch would our back muscles have to bear.

So these were some of our day to day activities which contribute highly to an aching back.

And the texting addicts, many of them do suffer from this annoying ache for sure, as for hunching over cell phone for hours is perhaps another contributor of back strain.

Other reasons for back pain also include being overweight, during pregnancy, being in the state of depression since long, and also long term stress.

Exercise is vital, even for those who are active on their daily lives. It is good in being active like having a short walk on the nearest park on weekends instead of watching television for the whole day.

Starting an exercise with the help of an instructor is recommended as one can have well-planned fitness programs. It is not complicated in having a fit body as long as one is not going to have a photo session on Sports Illustrated. What one needs is a simple training with effective results on having healthy and strong body. One may have to spend at least thirty minutes of exercises for not more than five days a week.

We can summarize that it is important to maintain a proper balance on the food intake along with a good fitness plan. Having a slim body is beautiful and obtaining prime health condition is perfect. With good health, there will be fewer chances of suffering from many diseases.
