Coffee while breastfeeding

When pregnant, many women try eating a healthy diet, avoiding certain food and drink that could seriously jeopardize the health of the child. Similar care must also be taken while you breastfeed your child.

Coffee is something that many simply can not do without.  Many ask whether it is safe to drink coffee while breastfeeding. The amount of caffeine in coffee varies greatly. The type, brand, and the way the coffee is made are just some of the factors that can influence the amount of caffeine in your system.

They say that drinking coffee while breastfeeding inevitably leads harming the child and can cause serious problems that will be initially overlooked. The baby can suffer from insomnia and irritability. This is because caffeine affects the child’s nervous system. So, is it safe to have coffee while breastfeeding?  Yes, it is safe to have coffee while breastfeeding. Just limit your intake by taking one or two cups a day. But if you think that it will causes complications to the child, then try not drinking coffee.

If a breastfeeding mother caffeine intake is high, her baby might show following symptoms:

  • Overactive
  • Problems in sleeping
  • Fussiness and crying “colic”
  • Being wide-eyed
