Hazardous Effect of Dehydration and How to Avoid It

People know about dehydration but not all of them know that it jeopardize their health. It is easy for an individual to suffer from it because a human’s body is approximately 60% water. When an individual’s body contains less than 60% of water, then good nutrients are not transported very well to all body parts. The worse thing is that the body cannot process the waste products properly.


To keep away from dehydration, it is best to prevent ourselves from mild dehydration. Some signs include:

  • Thirst and dry mouth
  • Less urination
  • Dry skin
  • Headache and sleepiness, or lightheaded
  • Constipation

It is best to drink lots of water or mineralized water like Gatorade when those signs appear on our bodies because if they are left untreated, they can cause to severe dehydration with some signs include:

  • Less sweating
  • Severe dry mouth and thirst
  • Rapid breathing and heartbeat
  • No urination or less urination with dark yellow color
  • Lacks dry elasticity
  • Fever and unconsciousness

Those signs should not be taken for granted because they can cause serious medical treatment like being hospitalized. It is the best step for receiving fluids and salts through vein so that one is not suffering from serious diseases. So, replacing fluids when there are mild signs of dehydration is the best thing to do. Drinking a plenty of water is good, but when one needs to have much faster effect of fluid replacement, taking sports drinks like Powerade can be very helpful.

Starting from now, mild to moderate dehydration signs should be taken very seriously. Never underestimate headaches to tingling and numbness for worse condition. Once you feel thirsty, then it is much better to drink plenty of water. This is a good habit and every person should make it as a habit instead of an obligation.
