The Importance of Portable Snacks

In addition to the house keys, wallet and cell phone, there is something else that should be present in your backpack, purse or wallet when you leave home: a portable snack. I’m talking about foods that you carry daily in your backpack when you go to school, work or walk, which are essential in every manual of good food.

Why are they important? First, because they give us the energy we need to continue our activities when we are away from home. In addition, it helps relieve hunger throughout the day.

But, portable snacks should not be any food. It is best to combine a wide range of foods from different food groups. For example, yogurt, milk or cheese ensure strong bones while energy bars, cereals and cookies provide energy for muscles and brain.

Small and easy to carry fruits such as apples, pears, oranges and grapes give you the vitamins and minerals needed to protect your immune system, as well as vegetables like carrots, broccoli and tomatoes. Other options for portable snacks are wheat bread and nuts.

Undoubtedly, these snack ideas are much more healthy, compared to the food you buy in fast foods. Of course, you can include cookies and candies in your bag, but not every day, because they raise the level of insulin and consumption of excess sugar will make you gain weight.
