Tips on scarlet fever

Scarlet fever is an illness that commonly presents in children, but could also affect any other person as well at any age. It is an infection by a bacterium in the group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus. Let us have a look at some of the common signs and symptoms of scarlet fever;

1. Your child will have a high fever of 101 F or higher, necessary measure to help reduce or control the fever could be taken to ensure comfort to your child.

2. A red rash similar to a sun burn and rough to feel will appear starting with the face or neck and then spread to other parts of the body e. g. trunk and the limbs

3. A pale ring will appear on the face and the entire face will have a flushed appearance.

4. The folds of skin around the joints of your kid and the neck and groin will become deeper red that the surrounding rushes.

5. Your kids tongue will have a red, bumpy and covered with a white coating especially during the beginning of the illness.

6. Your child will experience trouble in swallowing due to inflammation of the throat, a medical term referred to as dysphagia.

7. The lymph nodes on the neck will be tender to touch and swollen a sign on lymphatic system involvement.

8. Another sign and symptom is nausea and vomiting. Your kid will have this nauseated feeling that might result into vomiting.

9. Another symptom is headache that usually presents in children with scarlet fever.

In conclusion the presence of a constant and high fever, swelling lymph nodes and the rash should be enough to make you the parent or caregiver to quickly take your child to the doctor.
