Sure, women have a lot of cravings, especially when they’re pregnant. But, not all food can be beneficial to mother and the unborn. We have listed the top 5 foods not to eat during pregnancy.

1.) Undercooked Meat

You might like your steak rare, but pregnancy is a time to order all steaks well done. Raw or undercooked meat can harbor toxoplasma and a wide variety of bacteria. When eating out, make sure your meat is steaming hot and thoroughly cooked.

2.) Sushi

Pregnancy is not the perfect time to be a sushi fan. Although seafood is a great source of protein, raw seafood can be a source of harmful parasites and bacteria. The FDA recommends pregnant women to only eat fish and other seafood that has been cooked well.

3.) Fish With Mercury

Swordfish, shark, tilefish, and king mackerel contain high levels of methylmercury. This metal can harm an unborn baby’s development. Pregnant women should go for fish such as catfish, salmon, and tuna.

4.) Unwashed Fruits/Veggies

No, we are not banning fruits and vegetables during pregnancy. Just be sure to rinse them well. A parasite called toxoplasma can live on unwashed fruits and vegetable that can cause an illness called toxoplasmosis.

5.) Raw Sprouts

Pregnant women should not eat raw sprouts of any kind, including alfalfa, clover, and radish. Bacteria can get into the seeds before the sprouts begin to grow. These germs are nearly impossible to wash away, and can be harmful to the unborn baby.
